New Generation of Pressure Injectors

For All Your Microinjection Needs

WPI's new generation pressure microinjectors are quickly replacing the very popular legacy line of pnuematic valve PicoPumps Pressure Injectors. The PV820 and PV830 have been a staple in the microinjection market for decades. The μPUMP is our Microinjector with an Internal Pressure Source.

One common microinjection method uses a glass micropipette to inject a liquid substance into a living cell or into the intercellular space, typically using an inverted microscope. The glass microinjection needle tip can vary in size from sub-micron to about 5-6µm in diameter. It will be larger if you are injecting stem cells into an embryo. The needles penetrate the cell membrane or even the nuclear envelope, in order to introduce a vector into a cell or nucleus. The vector could be a DNA molecule that carries foreign genetic material into the host cell where it replicates. By altering the embryo, microinjection can be used to genetically modify various animals like mice, fish (zebrafish, medaka, etc.), C. elegans, rats, rabbits, and even large domesitcated animals  like cattle, sheep and pigs.
